PATTERSON (Armstrong), Louisa
It is with great sadness that the family of Louisa (Armstrong) Patterson, of Wolfville, announces her death on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the age of 71 years.
Louisa was born in Saint John, N.B., a daughter of Roscoe and Alice (King) Armstrong. Predeceased in death by her parents and sister, Elsie Reid (Glendon). She is survived by her husband, Edward of 45 years, with whom she shared a life of love and adventure including an introduction to country music, motorcycling, and a move from being a true urbanite to the joys of rural living. Louisa was a Life Member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Louisa is survived by her awesome daughter, Laura (Ben) who has a keen sense of humour and is a nurturing and supportive advocate; stepsister, Loretta Macfarland of Toronto, Ont.; niece, Lana Kiervin of Saint John, N.B.; nephew, David Reid of Saint John, N.B.; nephew, Kevin Reid (Phyllis) of Saint John, N.B.; cousins, Bill Daley (Linda) of Omemee, Ont.; Carole Burling (Keith) of Toronto, Ont.; George Stanley (Lynn) of Moncton, N.B.; and Phillip Daley of Lindsay, Ont. Louisa was preceded in death by nephews, Brian, Gary, and Peter Reid (of Saint John, N.B.).
Louisa received her early education in Saint John. She graduated from Saint Vincent’s Girls High School and then earned a diploma from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing. Louisa received a Bachelor of Nursing Degree, Post RN Program, from the University of New Brunswick and a Masters of Nursing Degree from Dalhousie University.
Prior to a 30 year career as a federal public servant with Veteran’s Affairs Canada, Louisa‘s nursing career involved several positions (Senior Administrative Supervisor, Jewish Home for the Aged, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, Toronto, Ont.; Nursing Instructor, St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish; Director of Medical Services, Bowater Mersey Paper Company, Liverpool; Director of Nursing, Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage) as well as serving over a decade as an adjunct nursing appointee with the Dalhousie School of Nursing.
Close family ties and friendships with nursing and university classmates and Veteran’s Affairs Canada colleagues were calming influences when life was unpredictable and messy, manifesting kindness and love toward one and all.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville (Corpus Christi Parish) with Father John Macpherson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. A video webcast of the church service will be available at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21st.
