John M. Varner dies at 100 years.

VARNER, John Maynard Age 100, of Kingston, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in Annapolis Community Health Center, Annapolis. Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Seth L. and Marguerite (Hatt) Varner. John resided in Kingston for all of his 100 years. He delivered newspapers as a boy. He worked in the creamery, apple warehouse and then worked at Greenwood Base in multiple occupation­s, spending 30 plus years in the heating plant. He enjoyed planting his vegetable garden, picking strawberri­es at 99 years old and still making jam at 100 years of age. After retirement, Dad and Mom drove miles every Saturday to look for a yard sale bargain. He was a great father and very kind and generous to friends and neighbours. Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Jim) Kennedy, Courtenay, B.C.; Mary (Angus) Mclean, Torbrook; Linda (Bruce) Naugler, North Kingston; Judy Adams (Steve Morse), Nictaux; sons, Steven (Christine) Varner, Stittsvill­e, Ont.; Robert (Adele) Varner, Pembroke, Ont.; 14 grandchild­ren and 18 great-grandchild­ren. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife of 70 years, the former RoseMarie Clark; sister, Lillian Snow; brothers, Enos, Emerson and Lloyd. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22nd, from 6-8 p.m. in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 23rd, at 11 a.m. in North Kingston Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Kaiser officiatin­g.
