Age 94, passed away peacefully from pneumonia in Valley Regional Hospital on July 18, 2021. Survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Bernice (Halstead); children, Susan, Michael (Carole-ann) and Greg (Frances); grandchild­ren, Shannon (Donald), Samantha, and Alyssa; greatgrand­children, Chase and Ryder; sister, Victoria (Murphy); sister-in-law, Alice (Halstead); and several nieces and nephews. Predecease­d by his parents, Benjamin and Edna (Petch); brothers, John and Mires; sisters, Marie and Mabel; great-grandson, Brady. Born February 9, 1927 in Munson, Alta., and raised in Munson and Calgary. Red had a lifelong interest in airplanes, starting with building models that were proudly hung from the dining room ceiling; joining the air cadets, later the air force; and then a long career in aerospace, retiring from Canadair (Bombardier) in 1987. Red enjoyed a long retirement reading many books; making new friends through the Friendship Club in Pierrefond­s, Que., the Gliders Club in Windsor, and from many decades of bowling. Red was in and out of the hospital for the last two months and always received timely, considerat­e, and profession­al care. Special thanks to caregivers Amber, Tyler, and Shannon, who always kept Red comfortabl­e and well-fed at home. Arrangemen­ts for cremation have been entrusted to Demont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass, keeping with COVID-19 guidelines will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 339 King St., Windsor, Rev. Father Keith Billard officiatin­g.
