A bail hearing will be held in mid-august in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Bridgewater for a man charged with second-degree murder in the June 17 killing of Kenneth Savory in Dublin Shore, Lunenburg County.

Terry Richard Johnson, 58, of Bayport is accused of intentionally striking Savory, 44, of Lunenburg, with his truck.

Johnson’s lawyer, Alex Pink, appeared in Supreme Court in Halifax by phone Thursday to get a date for a bail hearing.

Prosecutor Leigh-ann Bryson said the Crown is opposed to Johnson’s release.

Associate Chief Justice Patrick Duncan scheduled the hearing for Aug. 13 in front of Justice Frank Hoskins.

Lunenburg District RCMP said they responded at about 10:30 p.m. on June 17 to a report that a man had been run over by a truck.

The truck was gone when police arrived. RCMP said the victim had been run over by the vehicle several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police located Johnson and the truck at his home on Highway 332 in Bayport a short time later and said he was arrested without incident.

Savory was remembered in his obituary as a loving, devoted father, son, brother and “friend to many.”

“Being with his children made him so happy,” the obituary said. “They, among many more, will truly miss his big lanky hugs.”

Johnson operates his own business — a lawn-care company — and has never been in trouble with the law before.

Crown attorney Bryson McDonald, who’s also on the file, told The Chronicle Herald in June he couldn’t discuss details of the homicide but called it “a tragic situation.”
