Mckinnon pulls out of Nova Scotia mid-amateur
The odds-on favourite for this weekend's Nova Scotia mid-amateur has withdrawn from the 54-hole provincial golf championship the day before the opening round.
Ashburn's Brett Mckinnon, who had won three consecutive tournaments he was entered in, including the Nova Scotia amateur at Avon Valley two weeks ago, cited work commitments in Cape Breton for pulling out of the mid-am.
Mckinnon, who hails from Glace Bay, said in a text that he will remain in Cape Breton, where he will train and play until he departs at the end of the month for the Canadian amateur in Windsor, Ont.
The Canadian amateur championship will be held Aug. 2-5 at the Ambassador Golf Club.
The Nova Scotia midamateur will be staged Friday to Sunday at Paragon Golf and Country Club in Kingston.
