-

Age 84, Truro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2021,in Debert Court, Debert. Born in Granville Centre, Annapolis Co., Ruth was a daughter of the late Boyd and Ethel (Young) Tanch. In her final days, she was surrounded by her loving family. Ruth leaves behind her husband, Gower Thompson; son, Edward Elliott; daughter, Tanya Elliott (Steve); granddaughter, Sarah Ward (Mitch); grandsons, Brandon Elliott (Angelina), David Hayman; brothers, Reginald Weir (Joan), Robert Tanch (Naomi). Along with her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her siblings, Katie Weir, Evelyn Corscadden and Douglas, Oscar, and Joseph Tanch. In later years after high school, Ruth moved to Halifax where she went on to study nursing and completed her CNA course. Ruth went on to work at different facilities including IWK Children’s Hospital, Halifax and Hillcrest Manor in Truro, where she took great pride in caring for her seniors. Ruth was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, and the Saturday night dances were the highlight of her week. On most days, Ruth could be found strolling the streets, and some days covering a lot of ground, enjoying her chats with people along the way. November 12th was always the day the Christmas ornaments came out; Ruth had many and her apartment looked much like a Christmas wonderland. She always enjoyed the first snowfall and looked forward to watching Tanya and Sarah decorate the Christmas tree each year. Ruth loved her family gatherings, whether it was for barbequed hotdogs or a turkey dinner, and of course, the desserts with a nice glass of rye. Ruth was small but mighty, and when she set her mind to something there was no changing it. Her pride and joy was her family, whether it was a daily phone call with them or their regular visits. In Ruth’s later years, she called Debert Court her home, enjoying her days with the wonderful staff; she loved them all and was known to keep them on their toes. Ruth’s family is forever grateful for the exceptional care she received. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Colchester SPCA or Debert Court Recreational Department. As per Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenfield Cemetery.
