BURRELL, Courtney Allister

Age 91, of Kentville, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born and raised in Kentville, Courtney was a son of the late Winslow and Gwendolyn (Sawler) Burrell. Courtney was a well-known businessma­n in Kentville. He owned and operated Burrell Sales & Service Limited for 43 years. Courtney attended Kings County Academy high school where he was editor of the yearbook his graduating year of 1948.

In high school, he joined the Army Cadets and played in the Bugle Band. He was a member of the KCA hockey and rugby teams and won numerous awards in track and field. Courtney was a Militia Captain (Ret’d) in the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a past president of the Kentville Merchants Associatio­n, the Kentville and Area Youth Associatio­n, and the Kentville Gyro Club, a member of the Kenwo and Eagle Crest Golf Courses, and the Glooscap and Wolfville Curling Clubs. Over the years, Courtney enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobili­ng, woodworkin­g, visits with family and friends, summers at the Aylesford Lake cottage and a good game of Turkeyfoot. He is survived by daughters, Debbie (Leigh) Whalen, Lower Sackville; Sandra Burrell, Wolfville; son, Dr. Steven Burrell, Halifax; granddaugh­ters, Jennifer (Daniel) Bonner, Beaver Bank; Jayme (Devin) Meadows, Middle Sackville; greatgrand­children, Luke, Natalie, Henry and Callie. He was predecease­d by his parents; his wife, Anna Sarah (Macrury) Burrell; his brother, Ronald; and his sisters, Mona Campbell and Helen Chapman. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Wedgewood House for Seniors, Kentville and to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Valley Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 17th and the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18th in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. A video webcast of the funeral service will be available. Donations in memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
