Van HEMERT, Leslie Willem
June 17, 1943 – September 9, 2021. Predeceased by mother, Helen Sylvia Fullerton; father, Johannes (John) van Hemert. Leslie was educated in Montreal at TMR High and Lower Canada College 1961; BA Dalhousie University 1964; MBA Western Ivey 1966; and Harvard Executive Program 1979. He was a course instructor at Concordia, Mcgill and St. Francis Xavier Universities. Leslie’s widerange of employment included: Imperial Oil head office in Toronto; GTE Sylvania International in Montreal, across the United States and Far East; arctic marine construction on the Beaufort Sea islands for frontier exploration; and seafloor site investigations across the Strait of Belle Isle to enable Labrador hydro power to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Survived by dearly beloved wife of 32 years, Victoria Margaret; sons, John Leslie (Lisa) and Thomas Edward Willem (Meredith); grandchildren, Willem, Jacob, Desmond and Claire; sisters, Valerie Helen Chedore (Colin) and Pamela Joanne Mcculloch (Garry); and brothers-in-law, Mark Mitchell (Judi) and Patrick Mitchell. Special memories of nieces and nephews Katherine, Bill, Valerie Jean, and Kevan. Leslie said he lived a beautiful life in happy times in Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. He was so grateful for loving parents, grandparents, family and friends. He knew and engaged the wider world from travel in employment roles, but no joy surpassed creating his own many gardens at home with Victoria.
