STEWART, James "Garth"

-

Born Dec. 21, 1931, in Norboro, PEI to Thomas Mayne Stewart and Ruby Elizabeth (Bowness) Stewart passed at age 90 due to Covid. He left the farm in 1951 to join the RCMP and for close to 10 years was stationed throughout Nova Scotia. After that he worked as an Insurance Claims Adjuster, then in sales with North American Life and Great-west Life earning his Chartered Life Underwriter (C.L.U.) designation in 1978. He didn’t fully retire until he was 75. Being a typical Islander, he loved talking to people and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a gentle man and a gentleman and was very kind. He had many hobbies and liked to keep busy. He was a beekeeper and harvested great honey to give to family and friends, he was a serious winemaker and most importantly, he loved to garden and was happiest when his hands were in the dirt. In his younger years he acquired his private pilot’s license, and he continued his love of planes and flying throughout his life. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Ruth Graham and Mary Eleanor Mackay; and his ex-wife, Connie Stewart.

He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda Gail (Burke) Stewart, of Dartmouth; daughters, Gail Stewart (Ernie Cousins) of Lawrencetown, Judi Matheson (Dave) of Dartmouth, and Janet Stewart (Dave Gaudet) of Winnipeg; son, Gordon Stewart (Donna) of Melbourne, Australia and step-son Randall Carroll (Andelynn Alexander) of Hammonds Plains; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was incredibly proud of all of his children and grandchildren, the lives they had built for themselves and their many accomplishments. There will be no funeral at this time but rather a celebration of Garth’s life later in the year. Donations in Garth’s memory may be made to either Alzeimers Society of Nova Scotia or your favourite Food Bank.
