ANTHONY, Ruth Marie

-

April 23, 1926 - April 28, 2022. Beloved to many, Ruth passed away peacefully in Sunrise Senior Living, Victoria, B.C., her home for the past several years. She was predeceased by her parents, Allison and Angelina Anthony, and her sister, Jeanne Fisher (Layton deceased). Survived by daughters, Gabriele Beer and Carla Beer-carpenter (Richard); granddaughters, Mary Kate and Theresa Carpenter (Brad); sister, Marion Jones (Don deceased); nephews, John Fisher (Satoe), Michael Jones (Tanya); nieces, Catherine Macdonald, Patricia Reeder (William), Alison Levorson (Greg), and Penny Brush (William). Born in Lockeport and raised in Yarmouth, Ruth had a long and successful career in nursing, obtaining her BSC in Nursing in her 40s, after two decades as a registered nurse. Ruth loved music, literature, astronomy, and playing bridge, and more than anything, she loved her family and friends. Until dementia took its toll, she was the “best grammie ever” to Mary Kate and Theresa, her reasons for making a move across the country to Victoria at age 70 from her established life in Halifax. We will be forever grateful to her for recognizing that family comes first, and for teaching us that every day. Advancing dementia stole her from us a bit at a time, but almost till the end she maintained her spirit of grace and snappy retorts, smacking her caregiver for reminding her of her 96th birthday approaching. We are so appreciative of the excellent care Ruth received in her seven years at Sunrise; she felt loved until the end. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Donations may be given in Ruth’s name to the World Wildlife Foundation or BC SPCA, two causes close to her heart.
