Wanderers honour healthcare heroes
HFX Wanderers showcase the generosity and dedication of local healthcare professionals this season
This season, the HFX Wanderers are setting out to honour the lifesaving work that healthcare professionals do in the province.
Building on a program that was launched in 2021, the Wanderers are asking the community to nominate healthcare heroes who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic. The Wanderers have partnered with MD Financial Management and Scotiabank to provide tickets for all the healthcare heroes nominated and feature some of their stores on our club website.
“As we return to the excitement of a packed Wanderers Grounds, we wanted to acknowledge the tireless work of our healthcare professionals throughout the pandemic,” Wanderers President and Founder Derek Martin says. “We wanted to provide a platform for our fans to nominate the healthcare heroes in their lives and share some of their inspirational stories.”
Paul Chamberland, regional vice president of MD Financial Management for Eastern Canada, says it is important to spotlight the dedication that healthcare workers have continued to show despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“MD Financial Management is proud to sponsor the HFX Wanderers’ Healthcare Heroes match,” says Chamberland. “Every day, healthcare heroes work tirelessly to care for their patients, support a healthy population, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. The opportunity to recognize physicians through this initiative and deepen our relationship with the healthcare community is – and always will be – extremely important to us.”
“For over 190 years, Scotiabank has been committed to supporting and investing in our community, so I am thrilled that Scotiabank Healthcare+ is sponsoring the Halifax Wanderers’ Healthcare Heroes match,” says David Noel, Regional Senior Vice President of Scotiabank, Atlantic Region. “Sport has the ability to inspire and connect individuals, and this match is an opportunity to give back to the healthcare workers
who have worked around the clock over the past two years to support our community through an unforgettable soccer experience,”
The club’s partnership with MD Financial Management and Scotiabank is one of the exciting opportunities that the Wanderers are pursuing to make a difference – and celebrate difference makers – in the province. Last October, the
club partnered with the Smilezone Foundation and the Mcgivern Family to open a new Smilezone at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
“The club is lucky to have a great relationship with our local hospitals and care facilities,” says Finlayson. “We will continue to support where we can over the coming years.”
