DEMONT, Mary Elizabeth "Betty"

-

Age 82 years – Windsor. It is with heavy hearts we announce Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Demont (nee Delaney) of Windsor, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2022 at the Hants Community Hospital with family by her side. Born September 8,1939 in Halifax, she was the only daughter of the late Gerald and Zita (Hanratty) Delaney. Betty grew up in Rockingham where she met the love of her life. She easily transitioned to country living in Ellershouse and later on the Hartville Road in Ste. Croix. She graduated from Miss Murphy’s Business College and went on to work at the Naval Supply Depot (HMC Dockyard), Sears and Atlantic Concrete. She remained in contact with high school friends. Betty and Reuben had full life together, spending many years travelling to the camp on Five Mile Lake and camping at various sites around the Maritimes. She loved spending time with family and there may have even been the odd shenanigan or two. She was an avid card player, bowler, crafter and gardener. She was a master in the kitchen; cooking, baking and preserving. Betty loved country music, dancing and Lindor chocolates. While Reuben was her husband and best friend, Sydney Crosby came in a very close second. She followed Syd’s career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, keeping track of games and statistics (we’re confident she’ll continue to watch every game). Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Peter (Reuben), daughters, Shelley (Fred) Smith of Ardoise, Shari-lynn (Dale) Miller of Westlock AB, brother, John (Jack) Delaney, his wife, Sandra, and sister-in-law, Susan Delaney (Bud), many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was a devoted grandmother to Christine (Dustin), Sask., Samantha (Tyler), Justin (Jenna), Tabatha (William), and Brayden (Avery), all of AB. She will forever remain in the hearts of her great grandchildren, Moya, Caleb, Chevy and Houston. Betty had special relationships with her many sisters-in-law who treated her as their own; Sandra Delaney, Susan Delaney, Barbara Barkhouse, June Macdougall, Rosemary Mosher, Beverly Fletcher, Glenna Dempsey, Celesta Dearman; late sisters-in-law Margaret (Wayne) Williams, Jean (Fred) Demont, and Sherrill (Pat) Hardy as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Robert, Daniel, Gerald Thomas Jr. (Bud) and Ronald in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by her request. A memorial service will take place at the Ste. Croix United Church on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at 2:00 pm with reception to follow immediately after at the Ste. Croix Community Hall. (Cemetery Road, Ste. Croix). Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Hants Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary or a charity of choice.
