Suspect in Friday search arrested

-

Halifax Regional Police have located and charged a man they were looking for when they surrounded a building in Dartmouth on Friday.

Police had responded to a report of an assault with a weapon on Roleika Drive at 10:30 a.m., where a man with a knife had assaulted two people before fleeing the area in a vehicle.

The vehicle was located on Slayter Street not long after, and police contained a small, two-storey apartment building. They eventually entered the building late in the afternoon after sending a drone inside but did not find the suspect.

A police release later that afternoon said police had left the scene after they searched the residence and did not find a suspect, but would continue looking for him. However, HRP spokesman Const. John Macleod said Monday afternoon that the release was meant to be an update and was not correct in saying officers had cleared the scene without finding the suspect. He said officers did the main search of where they thought the suspect was, but then started searching elsewhere and found him hiding in another area of the building.

Tyler Charles Boland, 27, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Monday to face two charges of assault with a weapon and single counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, driving while prohibited and breaching a court order.

Macleod said Boland is accused of having the knife while committing the assaults, but not of using the knife to wound the victims during the incident.
