'BOWNESS, Janet Elizabeth

-

Janet Elizabeth Bowness, age 82, passed away peacefully with Willie Nelson playing surrounded by family in South Shore Regional Hospital on April 15, 2023. Janet was born in Montreal and was predeceased by her husband, Alwyn "Big Al" Bowness; her parents, Hugh and Marion (Howard) Coll; and her sister, Florence Bridges.

Janet will be remembered fondly for her quick wit and one-of-a-kind personality. Throughout her life, she contributed her time to her community. She held many high-ranking positions at the Royal Canadian Legion where she and Al spent many Saturday nights at Branch 85/90 laughing with their friends. Janet's intelligence and strong will enabled her to balance motherhood and a career in the 70s and 80s. After Al’s retirement, they relocated to Kentville, where they owned and operated the Wild Rose Inn and became active members of the Kenwo Golf and Country Club.

B was very passionate about sports and was a big fan for many teams over the years, most recently, the Winnipeg Jets (Go Jets Go!). She was an avid golfer who achieved a hole in one at Grovehill with a five wood and played in the Canadian Senior Ladies Golf Championship.

Janet is survived by her son, Hugh Bowness (Marie); her daughter, Erin Hartley (Jamie); and her grandchildren, Jamie, Lisa (Cam), Jessica (Kadeem), Matt (Charlotte) and Adam.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in Ambulatory Care and the Emergency Departments at South Shore Regional Hospital. In addition, we will always be grateful to Tara and Dr. Sue Robinson in the Hematology Department at the VG Hospital as well as Dr. Wayne Macleod. A Celebration of Life with family will be held this coming summer. In memory of Janet, please consider donating blood to the Canadian Blood Services or a donation to your local foodbank.
