INNOCENTE (Purcell), Gwendolyn Ann

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r, Gwendolyn Ann Innocente (Purcell). Passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, surrounded by family in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on April 8, 2023. Gwen was born March 27, 1940, to Roy and Gertude of Portuguese Cove. The day following her birth, Gwen’s father died during the sinking of Pilot Vessel No.2, The Hebridean, as it collided with a British freighter in the Halifax Harbour. She was predecease­d by her mother, Gertrude Flemming; father, Roy Purcell; stepfather, Tom Rodgers; her aunt, Eva Flemming and Nellie Flemming. She is survived by her husband, Alexander Innocente; children, Daniel; Stephen (Amber), and Cheryl (Jean Pierre). Her grandchild­ren, Stephen (Ashliegh), Joey (Mary), Ashley, Michael (Martha), Amber (Oscar), Brittany (Luke), Dylan. And her great-grandchild­ren, Jordyn, Morgan, Giorgia, Harliegh, Presley, Ryan and Brody. Gwen had a strong love for her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Her fondest memories were of spending time with them. She was the director, and secretary, of her and her husband's business, AJ Innocente Contractin­g. She also had involvemen­t with politics, during Premier Gerald Regan’s time in office, and volunteere­d much of her time to The Chebucto Minor Hockey Associatio­n. During the 80s and 90s, she spent a great part of her life at The Plantation Campground. Making wonderful memories with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing in a dart league at the Whites Lake Legion. Her funeral will take place in St. Theresa Catholic Church, April 27th, 6351 North St. Halifax, at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. A special thanks to the nurses on 7.2 and the palliative care team of the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
