COMEAU, Ronald Alfred "Frenchie"

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Dad, Ronald “Frenchie” Alfred Comeau on his 90th birthday, Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home. Born in the small French community of Shemogue, N.B., he was a son of the late Alexander and Ida (Legere) Comeau. Frenchie worked at Enheat Ltd for 35 years and finished his career at Amherst Woodworker­s which was later called Premdor. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus local 2916 and a 4th Degree Knight. Frenchie was an avid sports fan always following his Montreal Canadiens and Expos and later the Blue Jays. He was a volunteer, coach, director of minor hockey and the Amherst Little League for well over 30 years and also a fixture in the scorekeepe­rs’ box for the Amherst Ramblers. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Vera; daughter, Romaine (Denis L'heureux); Oromocto; sons, Michael (Vicky) of Fort Lawrence; Terry of Pointe de Comeau; and Chris “Chico” (Maria) of Amherst; nine grandchild­ren and several great-grandchild­ren; brother, Leonard (Mary Lyn) of Amherst; sisters, Bertha Emmett of Ottawa; Cecilia Waller of Dartmouth; and Dorothy Smith of Dartmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family. Besides his parents, Frenchie was predecease­d by his sisters, Elizabeth Landry and Caroline Mickie; and brother, Philip; grandson, Chris; as well as three sisters in infancy. A time of visitation will take place today, Tuesday, April 18th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, 902-667-9906. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 19th at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 63 Church St., Amherst with Father Gregory Agyeman officiatin­g. Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 23rd at 11 a.m. in St. Charles-nativity Cemetery. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributi­ons can be made in Frenchie’s memory to Cumberland Hospice Palliative Care Society.
