KANE, Donald William "Don"
Age 74, of Halifax, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late George and Doris (Watson) Kane, he loved both very much. Don was a oneoff. People were very important to him, and he had long and lasting relationships with many friends and neighbours. He wanted to make people happy, he was generous, he was kind, and he had a great sense of humour, often self deprecating. He loved organizing adventures and events and some of his parties are memorable. In his last months, he did not want to be a burden and tried to be as independent as possible, not always sharing the challenges he was dealing with. Don had many interests and endeavours. He worked in the fine arts field with Visual Arts Nova Scotia, ran a fine arts print shop, loved taking pictures and could be seen in the Public Gardens or his beloved back yard garden and pond photographing the changing seasons. In the IT world, he was an entrepreneur sometimes ahead of the curve, always looking for ways to put his latest ideas into action. Writing his book on the Halifax Explosion was the culmination of a dream he had for many years that started as a conversation with his father. He will be greatly missed by his partner of 36 years, Vivian (Campbell). Don is also survived by his older brother and friend, Doug (Brenda); his sister, Pat (Larry); and younger bother, Bob (Sherry); as well as his extended family and muchloved nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews for whom he had a soft spot in his heart. Don was a cat lover, and his special girl, “Little P”, misses him too. Don received caring and excellent support from many health care professionals over the past five years and we would like to thank his family doctor, the teams of the Medical and Radiation Oncology Departments at the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, the Palliative Care team, and the many other professionals who supported us. www.harboursidecremation.ca
