ROMKEY (Peters), Thelma Golda

-

Age 82. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a wife and mother who passed away at home in Dartmouth on Thursday, April 13, 2023, surrounded by family. Born on May 17, 1940 in Dartmouth, she was the only daughter of the late John Edward and Myrtle (Barker) Peters. Thelma’s greatest love was her husband and her family. She was a devoted and loyal wife and mother. All of her children were proud to call her mom. Mom entered this world prematurely and became a survivor from the very beginning. Though mom’s health was failing for a number of years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. She had the best sense of humour and, healthy or sick, mom’s sense of humour never faltered. Mom loved being surrounded by people which was one of the reasons she loved going to bingo and went regularly until her health prevented her from doing so. It also contributed to the fact that mom continued to work and didn’t officially retire until the age of 74 when her health finally forced her to do so. You couldn’t go anywhere, whether locally or travelling, where there wasn’t at least one person who knew mom. She has now been reunited with her two best friends from the K-mart days: Betty Denty and Myrna Steeves. Mom was one of a kind and a real “lady” in every sense of the word. She will be so missed but never forgotten. Survived by her husband of 35 years, Donald Earl Romkey: sons, Stanley (Kim) Ritchie, Donald (Patricia) Ritchie and stepson, Earl (Natasha) Romkey; daughters, Christina Browning, Lorna (Tom) Ritchie; daughter-in-law, Darlene Ritchie; stepdaughters, Victoria (Paul) Palmeter and Agnes (Keith) Rendell; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; brother, Harry (Gail) Peters, sister-in-law, Dolly Peters. Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald Edward Ritchie; brother, Carl Peters; son, Stephen Harry Ritchie; great-grandson, Edward Wibberley; son-in-law, Stephen Browning and her beloved dog, Riley. In keeping with mom’s wishes there will be no service. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of mom to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Dartmouth chapel at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com

Your Hug Meant the World Nobody else held me so tight Or made me feel so right No one's eyes shined so bright with love As my mom, who is now high above.
