Age 80 years of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on May 22, 2023. Born in Lower Sackville on January 29, 1943; he was a son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Robinson) Williams. Doug retired from the Halifax Regional School Board after 32 years as Chief Caretaker at Smokey Drive Elementary School. He was an active member of the Cobequid Road United Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Past President of the Men’s Brotherhoo­d, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and Soloist. He was a member of the African United Baptist Associatio­n “AUBA” and also active in his community receiving an award in outstandin­g community service from the Black Cultural Centre. Doug loved to sing and bowl and he enjoyed family gatherings. His devotion to God, his church and also his family were most important to him. Left with loving memories are his devoted spouse of 54 years, Claudia (Dawson); beloved children, Calvin (Jenn), Angela and Crystal; adored grandchild­ren, Jasmine and Jordan; cherished great-grandchild­ren, Jaida and Ayla; siblings, Frederick, Paul, Victor (Wanda), Margaret (Donnie), Marie, Frances and Lucy; sister-inlaw, Alice; also by many extended family members. Predecease­d by his sister, Joyce; brothers, Louis and Donald; Godchild Geno Owen. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. in the Atlantic Funeral Home, Sackville Chapel (125 Sackville Drive). The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m., from the Atlantic Funeral Home, Sackville Chapel with reception to follow. Livestream­ing available via obituary webpage. Interment will be in Oakridge Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug can be made to the Cobequid Road United Baptist Church.
