ANNAND, Robert William “Bob”

-

Born November 5, 1923 in Truro, Nova Scotia, passed away at Perley Health, Ottawa, Ontario on May 20, 2023. He was a son of the late Clifford Arthur Annand and Marjory Britton (Mccully) Annand. Bob is survived by his wife, Penny (Chambers) Annand; son, Thomas (Wanda Procyshyn) of Ottawa, daughter, Sarah of Montreal; grandchildren, William and Helen; sister, Mardie Protheroe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters, Pat Pyne, Florence Endall; and brother Charles. Robert Annand was a painter renowned for the expressionistic handling of his subject matter; studies in oil and acrylic of figures, landscapes and nature. His work hangs in many public and private collections in Canada, including the National Gallery. An avid skier, he was part of the group of Truro volunteers who built the rope tow for the Wentworth Valley Ski Club in the 1950's. Robert studied at Mount Allison University, where he was encouraged by the British painter Stanley Royle. After service as a paratrooper in the Canadian Army, participating in Operation Varsity at the end of the war, he returned to Canada and resumed his training at the Ontario College of Art. There he received support from noted collector Douglas Duncan. Mr. Duncan assisted him in attending an eight month course in mural painting held in Guadalajara, Mexico. This experience had a profound effect on his work as a professional artist. The family thanks the staff of Rideau Veterans Residence, Perley Health, Ottawa for their dedicated and compassionate care over his nearly three year stay. Bob enjoyed the Recreation and Creative Arts Department music and painting programs - a wonderful way for him to keep in touch with his life long interests. There will be no public service or ceremony. Cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date in Nova Scotia.
