SMITH, Dixon

-

Age 85, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday May 23, 2023, with family by his side. He was born on April 26, 1938, in Newcastle, NB, son of the late Robert Hyslop Smith and Annie Louise (Maceachern) Smith. Dixon graduated from Harkins High School, Newcastle in 1958 where he excelled in automotive shop, and playing ice hockey. He also enjoyed his time in Air Cadets. He went on to successfully complete his Automotive Mechanics Course at the New Brunswick Technical Institute in Moncton in 1959. In 1967, Dixon became a founding partner of Stevens & Smith General Insurance Ltd. in Dartmouth, NS, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1994. Dixon met Margaret, the love of his life, January 1967 at the Jubilee Boat Club in Halifax, NS, and the two were married on October 14, 1967, in Annapolis Royal, NS. Together they were the proud parents of three children. Throughout his life, Dixon enjoyed playing and watching hockey, and cherished his time at the rink coaching his boys. Summers were spent in his boat on Lake Charlotte, where, with a bit of patience and coaching, he could help just about anyone get up on water-skis. He enjoyed board games and never turned down a game of Joker. Dixon adored his ten grandchildren, who will always have fond memories of wearing the conductors hat in their Grampie Train’s amazing train room. Together Dixon and Margie enjoyed travelling in their RV throughout North America. On their travels they made life long friends, and could often be found on a golf course, a square dance floor or at an outdoor concert. Dixon will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. Dixon was predeceased by his parents; his infant brother, Stanley; his younger, sister Myrtle; and sister-in-law, Davida Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret Anne (Strong) Smith; his siblings, Wilma (Brian) Mendes, Neil Smith, Lois (Kenneth) Phillips, Bowen (Jean) Smith, Earle (Evelyn) Smith; his children Robert (Michelle) Smith of Lindstrom, Minnesota; Sandra (Richard) Loewen of Ottawa, Ontario; and Ronald (Heidi) Smith of Moncton, New Brunswick; ten beautiful grandchildren Anna (Justin) Buhr, Gabrielle Smith, Katelyn (Ryan) Sudhakar, Maxine Smith, Alexandra Smith, Curtis Smith, Duncan Smith, Laurel Smith, Ellyn Smith, and Aaron Smith and delightful great-granddaughter Ella Maggie Buhr. Uncle Dixon was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Dixon and his family were so grateful for the support and spiritual care given by Pastor Manasseh and Doug Mclellan from The MET Church as well as the whole METCARE team during these last weeks. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at the Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa, Ontario.
