HUMBY, Gerald David

-

Age 78 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital on May 26, 2023. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on June 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Gerald Mansfield Humby and Jessie (Mccoy) Humby. He is survived by his wife and love of his life for 61 plus years, Brenda; sisters, Jeanette Patola (Donny), Jennifer Martone (Donny); children, Susan (Edgar), Carolyn (Tim), Gerald (Anik), Beverly (Robert); grandchildren, Christina, Kara, Jeffrey, Evan, Joshua, Jacob, Isha, Nyah; and several greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew Slawter. He began his naval career in 1961 as a mere teenage ordinary seaman at HMCS Cornwallis, and can boast the distinction of ending his career of 37 plus years as a full Naval Captain. Gerry led an active lifestyle and loved to be outdoors whether it was out for a walk, tending to his property, or in the wood yard. He enjoyed his annual camping trips to Kejimkujik with Brenda, and this is where you’d always find him on his birthday. In his earlier days, he deeply enjoyed his trips to Thunder Bay, his back-room jam sessions with the Fontaine boys, playing piano at Nana Kay’s house, or the fishing expeditions with his mother. He was a good friend, a great listener, and would always be willing to lend a hand or ear when needed. He will be greatly missed by those around him, especially by his family and everyone else who knew him. As Gerry quoted, “your attitude is the only difference between an ordeal and an adventure”. There will be a small gathering of family and close friends in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, on Saturday June 3rd. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Parkinson Canada. Online condolences can be made by visiting the Dartmouth chapel at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
