November 9, 1945 – May 28, 2023. It is with the greatest sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Wahay after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn are her husband of 53 years, John; daughter, Leigh (Sean Christy), son, Stephen (Laurie); granddaugh­ters, Norah, Kadyn, Ruth; and grandson, Felix; sisters, Mary Kettle, Rev. Kathleen Knott, Margaret Zwicker, Edith Parsons and Jane Chaulk. Predecease­d by her parents, Reginald and Violet Rose; brothers, Robert, Sam and George; and a sister, Karen. Joan was born in Port-aux-basques, NL, where she spent a happy and fulfilling childhood. She moved to Halifax to work as a dental assistant and later became a secretary to a firm in Dartmouth. Joan was brought to Ottawa in 1986 because of John’s work. She then found work as assistant to the director of Centre Town Community Health Centre. She remained there until her retirement in 2005. She and John moved to Arnprior, ON, in 2001. Special thanks to the oncology department of the Renfrew Hospital, Dr. Derek Jonker of Ottawa Cancer Centre and Bayshore nurses, Amanda and Jessica. Final arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John St. North, Arnprior, ON, where visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, May 31st, from 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning, June 1st, from 9:45-10:30 a.m. A service in celebratio­n of Joan’s life will be conducted in Emmanuel Anglican Church, Arnprior on Thursday morning at 11 o’clock.
