It is with great sadness that the family of Virginia Fraser, 88, of Halifax, formerly of Centre (Yarmouth), passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Northwood Manor Halifax. Born in Centre, she was a daughter of the late Bennett and Letoil (Conrad) Dares. Virginia stayed at home to raise her children until they were able to look after themselves upon which time she entered the workforce, first as a waitress and then as an employee of Sears in Yarmouth for 22 years after which she retired. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, First South in her youth. She was active in her church, serving on the Board, singing in the choir and as a member of United Church Women at Beacon United Church. Virginia also was Tawny Owl in the Guide movement for many years. Virginia is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Brian (Shirley), Hamilton, ON; daughter, Janice, Halifax; grandchild­ren, Andrew (Lindsay Visser) Durkee, Halifax, Kathryn (Stewart) Rand, Halifax, Matthew (Samantha) Fraser, Hamilton, ON, Brendan Fraser, Hamilton, ON; and her great-granddaugh­ter, Ivy. Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by her sister, Gwen; brothers, Clyde, Bruce and Truman. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers, nursing staff, support staff and doctor at the 3rd floor of Northwood Manor for their excellent care of Virginia and support and ongoing care of her husband Robert. Funeral arrangemen­ts entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held on Tuesday, June 6th at 11 a.m. in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre, Lunenburg County. Rev. Rick Pryce officiatin­g.
