Age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Shubenacad­ie surrounded by his loving family on June 2, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born December 20, 1935, in Wolfville, NS, he was the son of the late Ellis and Kathleen (Hennigar) Hatt. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, and greatgrand­father. He was a kind, loyal man who will be fondly remembered for how he embraced life and his commitment to his family, friends and community impacting all who knew him. He was a Funeral Director for 45 years, enjoyed antique car shows, golfing and wintering in Florida with his wife Ruth. He was past President of the Nova Scotia Funeral Directors and Embalmers Associatio­n, a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and served on the Board of Directors of Preeper Hill Cemetery and the Tin Shop Museum in Shubenacad­ie. In addition to his parents, he is predecease­d by an infant son, and two brothers, Dean (Marie) and Curtis Hatt. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth (Mackinnon) Hatt, Shubenacad­ie; brother, Dale (Millie) Hatt, Port Hawkesbury; children, Sheila (Emmerson) Dempster, Susan (Donnie) Munro, Timothy (Heather) Hatt, Susan (Terry) Hillier, Carrie (Glenn) Peck and Marilyn (Martin) Kavanaugh; grandchild­ren, Shane, Tracy, Corey, Nicholas, Mallory, Wayne, Morganne, Taylor, Kylie, Jacob and several great-grandchild­ren. We are grateful for family, friends and the VON Palliative Care team who have provided compassion­ate care and check-ins over the past few weeks and extend sincere appreciati­on to Marilyn Fisher and John Gatto for their care and kindness over the past several weeks. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacad­ie, where the funeral service will take place Monday, June 5 at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Paul Worden officiatin­g. There will be no visitation. Private family burial will take place at Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. A reception will follow immediatel­y after the service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, VON or a charity of your choice.
