Wanted man nabbed after crashing while trying to flee Mounties

-

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and hit with several charges after crashing his vehicle while attempting to flee from police.

Officers with the West Hants District RCMP responding to 911 calls on Feb. 16 of a possible impaired driver in a red Honda Civic on Highway

1 in St. Croix just before 8 a.m. quickly located the suspect vehicle.

As police attempted a traffic stop, the driver attempted to flee only to crash into a snowbank.

The 26-year-old Summerville man, who was not injured in the collision, was arrested without further incident and taken to the police station for a drug impairment evaluation.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized brass knuckles, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs.

Information and evidence gathered at the scene led investigators to believe the man was also involved in another flight from a peace officer incident on Feb. 13, a theft in December 2023, and thefts in November 2023 and May 2022.

The man also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Colton Wile, 26, appeared in Kentville provincial court on Tuesday and was released with orders to reappear on April 16 to answer the following charges:

Two counts of theft under $5,000;

Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;

Three counts of failing to comply with a release order;

Two counts of flight from peace officer;

Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon;

Operation while impaired by drug;

Possession of substance (prescribed medication);

Display number plate issued for another vehicle;

Driving motor vehicle without motor vehicle liability policy;
