CATTRAL, Earl Leslie “Les”

Age68of Dartmouth. We are broken hearted to announce the peaceful passing of our father on February 16, 2024, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born December 25, 1955, (the Christmas Baby) in Arbroath, Scotland. Predeceased by his parents, Earl and Kay (Clarke). Survived by his children, Allison (Daniel) and Matthew and former spouse, Kim; sisters, Judy, Pat (Bernie), Bev (Terry), Nancy; brothers, Greg, Tony (Debbie). As well as several nephews and nieces. Dad had a passion for gardening, cooking, NASCAR, jigsaw puzzles and would never hesitate to help others when asked. He especially enjoyed the warmer weather when he could take his prized Corvette for leisurely drives. As a father, he was a source of inspiration and encouragement. He shared valuable life lessons, teaching the importance of integrity, hard work and compassion. His impact on our lives is immeasurable and will continue to thrive through the values he instilled. Professionally, Les enjoyed a successful career in the marine industry. Working with DND/CF Auxiliary Vessels for 37 years, initially as an Oiler and was determined to obtain his goal of Chief Engineer which he successfully achieved; finally retiring as Engineering Superintendent. Not one to stay idle he decided to return to work for SNC Lavalin for 10 years as a Ship Manager. His dedication and expertise earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His commitment to excellence and strong work ethic left a lasting impression of those who had the honour of working alongside him. Les will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and resilience. As we mourn his passing let us celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the VON nurses that cared for him over the years, especially Tammy and Ann. Dad would also like to express his deep gratitude to Kim who travelled the long road with him throughout his battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date when Dad will make his final deployment to the Magdalen Islands. A Celebration of Life will take place on a date to be announced.
