CUSTANCE, Jane Isabelle

-

Jane's passing occurred on February 20, 2024, in Dorothy Ley Hospice, Etobicoke, ON, at the age of 73. Born in the family home in Rawdon Gold Mines, NS, she was the seventh child and first daughter of the late Ray Everett and Mildred (Wilson) Custance, and as such was given the middle names of her two grandmothers. Growing up with nine brothers and three sisters in a rural area, she quickly learned the art of self-preservation and a love of practical jokes. She attended the oneroom school in West Gore, Rawdon District School, Hants North Rural High, and the Business Program at Hants East Rural High. She worked with the former Maritime Life Company and the Attorney General's Office of Nova Scotia before relocating to Toronto for other employment. But she would say her best "job" was being Auntie and Great Auntie to niece Leslie (Donny) Moss and their children Abbey and Conor, in Mississauga. Jane is survived by brothers, Stewart and Russell, Alberta; Garnet, Manitoba; sisters, Joyce, Rawdon Gold Mines; Geraldene "Dean" Sherman, Rawdon Gold Mines; and Heather Ettinger, Noel. She also leaves to mourn a great number of nieces; nephews,; cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Everett, Kenny, Graham, John, Wallace, and Eric. At her request there will be no funeral service, family committal at a later date in Nova Scotia. The family would like to extend great thanks to Leslie and her family for being there when Jane needed them most, for being her family in the realest sense of the word. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing. Arrangements are entrusted to Ridley Funeral Home, Etobicoke, ON.
