ROBERTSON, Dorothy May “Dot”

Age 93, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, in Blomidon Court, Greenwich, and went home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Born in Worcester, Massachuse­tts, Dorothy was one of three daughters of the late Roger and Ruth (Lamb) Baker. Dorothy graduated from South High and from Worcester State Teachers College. She went on to teach kindergart­en in Midland Street School in the 1950’s, during the baby boom. She once taught 40 children in the morning and another 40 children in the afternoon. Dorothy was a talented artist, often creating art for her classroom walls and, later, painting her home’s windows with Nativity scenes for Christmas. Dorothy had a passion for classical music and was a member of the Worcester Oratorio Society Chorus and the Worcester Music Festival Chorus at that time as well. She was a member of South Baptist Church and lived in Worcester for 30 years. Dorothy felt the call into ministry and attended Andover Newton Theologica­l School in Newton Centre, Massachuse­tts, where she met Bruce Robertson from Montreal, Quebec. She and Bruce married and went into ministry together, serving churches in Grande Prairie, AB; Strathroy and St. Catharines, ON; New Glasgow, NS; St. Laurent, QC; and Westville, NS. Dorothy was active in the choir, children’s ministries, and women’s groups at each location, as well as occasional­ly preaching when Bruce was away. They retired to Halifax and, later, to Wolfville. She will be missed by children, Susan (Philip) Mosher, Canaan, NS; Bonnie (Christophe­r) Coram, Edmonton, AB; and Douglas (Sarah) Robertson, Whitby, ON; grandchild­ren, Benjamin (Katelynne) and Sarah (Mallory); Rebecca (Addison), Angela, and Jeremy; Andrew and May; sister, Carol (Daniel) Martin, North Carolina; niece, nephew, and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Rev. J. Bruce Robertson and sister, Marcia Baker (Donald Lehtola). Dorothy’s family wish to thank Dr. Targett and all the staff at Blomidon Court for their kind and compassion­ate care over the last few years. The funeral service (with livestream), followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24th in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev. Calvin Burt officiatin­g. Burial will take place in the Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow, NS at a later date. By Dorothy’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Presbyteri­an World Service & Developmen­t, the Canadian Bible Society, or the Presbyteri­an Church in Canada.
