April 28, 1937Februa­ry 22, 2024, Lincoln, N.B., passed away suddenly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericto­n. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Hazel Frances (Woods) Redmond and the late Charles Francis Barnaby. He was predecease­d by his daughter, Jacqueline Barnaby, his sister Marilyn, and brothers, Frank and Bill. He is survived by his son, Trevor Barnaby of Fredericto­n, N.B.; his sisters, Marie Marshall (AL Grech), Oakville, ON, Patricia Holton, New Maryland, N.B., Shirley Redmond, Bedford, N.S. and Donna Martin, Lower Sackville, N.S. Fred will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Fred began his military career in March of 1956 as a Signalman. During his time in the military, Fred served overseas in Germany, Cyprus, Egypt and France. Fred was stationed at Camp Borden, Gagetown, Halifax and Petawawa and numerous other Canadian bases. Fred retired from active service on October 8, 1980. Fred’s passion was his work with the Sea and Navy League Cadets at Camp Barnicle at his property in Lincoln. Fred was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Lincoln and was active in the Knights of Columbus Council 9496. He was also a member of the Oromocto Legion, Branch 93 and a lifetime member of the N.B. Signallers Associatio­n. Come share some stories and memories and say farewell to the cantankero­us old man who made so many smile. Visitation will take place at Mcadam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericto­n, NB, Friday, March 1st from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Tribute at 2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Lincoln, NB on Saturday, March 2nd at 11 a.m. with Rev. Calistus Abazie presiding, followed by a time of fellowship. Interment will be held at a later date in Halifax. Family flowers only. Donations in Fred’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangemen­ts are entrusted to Mcadam’s Funeral Home.
