MACGLASHEN, Robert “Bob”, “Micky”

-

Age 81 of Dartmouth, NS, passed away peacefully at Hospice Halifax on February 22, 2024 surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Dartmouth in 1942 where he lived most of his life except for two years in his teens when his father was stationed in Ireland with the Canadian Royal Navy. Bob battled bravely with cancer for the last number of years. Bob had a successful career in sales and distinguished himself as an outstanding athlete. He was inducted into The Maritime Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 for success as a single canoe paddler, winning 3 North American championships plus Canadian and Maritime championships. Bob’s athletic career wasn’t restricted to paddling as he was a very accomplished bowler during the winter months winning tournaments in both Canada and the U.S in his earlier years playing many different sports. He would never refuse a request for advice on how to improve the game. A lot of Bob’s success and motivation in his athletic career came from his parents who both were inducted into The Nova Scotia Hall of Fame. Bob loved to mentor kids in several sports such as paddling and canoeing, he was always proud of what he gave back to the sports he took part in. As Bob mother came from a large family in Mahone Bay, some had moved to Boston where he would make numerous trips to Beantown to watch his beloved Red Sox play. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne; son, Roger (Rox Ann); sister, Jayne; nephew, Josh; and great-niece, Payton; sisters-in-law, Carrill, and Jean; nephew, Jay; and little buddy, Seamus. He was predeceased by his parents, Edith and John; brother, Archie; brothers-inlaw, Frank, Earl, Jordan; sister-in-law, Evelyn; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place Thursday, February 29 from 5-7 p.m. at A.L Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St, Dartmouth. Memorial service will be held Friday, March 1 at St. James United Church, 181 Portland St, Dartmouth at 2 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Halifax for their wonderful care and comfort they gave to Bob and the family during their stay.
