BROWN, Mark

Age 64 of Bedford, NS, suddenly passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 while playing hockey, a sport he loved. He was predeceased by his father, George (Capt. RCNR), mother, Eileen Brock (Lieut. WRCNS); brother, Derek Brown; and sister, Ann Brown Onyett. Mark is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Laura; son, Logan; brother, Brock; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A proud Nova Scotian, Mark was born in Bedford, February 6, 1960. The youngest of four siblings, he spent his early life in Bedford. He then went on to attend Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB. After graduating, Mark moved to Alberta to begin a long and fulfilling career as an Oil and Gas Executive. Mark had always wanted to return to the Maritimes and in 2000, he did. After a stint in Rothesay, NB, he finally returned to his childhood home of Bedford. He cherished the friendships he made along the way. An avid sports enthusiast, Mark spent his time playing hockey, golfing, sailing, skiing, and fly fishing on the Kedgwick River in New Brunswick. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago Bears; a combination resulting in thousands of hours of heartbreak. Mark was a passionate voice for a better province and country. His family’s military association spurred a specific interest in Canada’s role in both World Wars. Most of all, Mark was exceptionally proud of his family. A wonderful father who instilled upon his children the importance of education and a relentless work ethic. Always keen to listen, Mark served a similar mentorship role for his nieces and nephews. Mark was always there for his family. We will all miss his constant guidance and support. Mark cherished time spent with Martha be it a Friday night dinner and glass of wine, a warm fire on a cool night or traveling the globe. From locker rooms to dinner tables, living rooms to kitchen counters, Mark filled the room with his magnetic personality and sharp wit. The family would like to thank the Wednesday Night Hockey Boys who desperately tried to change the tragic outcome. We find comfort knowing Mark was surrounded by his friends who thought so highly of him. A Celebration of Life will be held at Oakfield Golf & Country Club on May 10, from 6-8 p,m.
