MASON, Marie Lillian

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one, Marie Lillian Mason at the QEII Health Science Centre on February 27, 2024. Marie was born in Long Island, New York on May 10, 1932, to Jennie (Deveau) and Edward Mason. When the family moved to Nova Scotia, Marie attended St. Patricks’ Girls school and St. Patrick’s High School in Halifax. Upon graduation she attended Maritime Business School. She then worked for many years at Halifax City Hall in the accounting Department and later at the Halifax school Board. Upon retiring, she devoted her time unselfishly caring for her aging parents for many years. Marie enjoyed the very simple pleasures in life. She was always “up” on all of the latest news events and ready for a spirited debate on politics. She never spoke ill of others or placed judgement. She loved her family and enjoyed sharing the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews never forgetting a birthday or special occasion. Marie had a deep devotion to her Roman Catholic Faith and attended Mass at both St. Patrick’s and St. Theresa churches until recently. She was very humble and always lived her life as a true Christian. We all love her and will miss her presence in our lives. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Sheehan (Reg), Carol Reiniger (Bob); and special sister-in-law, Yvonne Mason; nieces and nephews, Colleen, Beverly, Danny, Barry, Darren and Lisa; and many grandnieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by brothers, Edward “Buzz’ Mason and Gerald Mason; and nephew. Paul; and nieces. Lana, and Debra. Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 3 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, March 4 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2263 Brunswick Street, Halifax. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff and Doctors of 7th floor QEII Health Centre for their care and dedication to Marie in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to QEII Foundation / Heart and Stroke Division or a charity of your choice.
