It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Karen Ann (Quigley) Lavigne (63) of Lawrenceto­wn, on March 1, 2024. Karen was born in Halifax, to the late Francis “Rene” Quigley (Sandra Whitehead) and Doris (Lavangie) Quigley. Karen leaves behind to grieve her husband, and true forever friend of 29 years, Paul Lavigne, the light of her life, her daughter, Sabrina Quigley, her sister Trina (Brendan Boymook), Alberta, her brother Troy (Dianne) Quigley, Herring Cove, Chris (Michelle) Lavigne, Barry (Christine) Lavigne, Shelly Lavigne, Michelle Lavigne (Doug), special aunts, Jeanette Delaney, Halifax and Millie (Tim O’hara) Quigley, Toronto, Beatrice Pettipas, Charlos Cove, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Karen is predecease­d by her brother Garfield Quigley, father Francis “Rene” Quigley, mother Doris (Lavangie) Quigley, mother-in-law Norma (nee Deyoung Lavigne), father-in-law Peter Lavigne and sister-in-law Sandi Drake Karen was a dedicated employee of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice until her retirement in 2017. She was especially proud of her unique skillset and how she became a key support to her many colleagues throughout her 33year career working at the Attorney General’s Library. When her daughter, Sabrina, was born, Karen vowed to be her voice and advocate to ensure she had the opportunit­y to break barriers and live a rich, independen­t life. Karen believed in inclusion and dedicated herself to be the support that Sabrina needed to live her life to the fullest. This allowed Karen the opportunit­y to volunteer with Wee Care, Girl Guides of Canada and Special Olympics, to name a few. Rene instilled a strong sense of community and social responsibi­lity in his children. Karen lovingly continued this legacy through her service, dedication and commitment to her community by her many contributi­ons to the Lioness Club of Spryfield, Busom Buddies, Lion’s Club of Canada and the Lion’s Club of Cole Harbour. Following her retirement, Karen found a passion in leadership, where she was able to plan and execute on the visions of the Lion’s Clubs of Canada’s five pillars of service through her many executive positions in both her district and local chapter, most recently as the 1st Vice District Governor and Diabetes Chair of the Lion’s Club of Cole Harbour. Cremation will take place and a celebratio­n of her life will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate remembranc­es in memory of Karen to the Diabetes of Canada Camp Lion Maxwell of Nova Scotia, or the Cole Harbour Lion’s Club.
