BAIN, Victor Percy

Of Halifax and formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on March 5, 2024 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born in Yarmouth on September 5, 1940 he was the oldest son of the late Raymond and Lorraine (Vanhorne) Bain. Victor started his career in the fisheries, fishing out of Sandford at an early age. He came off the water to work as a car salesman for Town Motors, Yarmouth to be home with his family. Then he owned and operated V. Bain Logging Operations Ltd. employing over 40 people. He took a lot of pride in buying and operating Pierce’s Sawmill and built many homes in and around the Wellington area. Since the sea was always calling his name, later in life Vic went back into the fisheries and fished out of Sambro for a number of years. Once age took him off the water again he was a rockweed harvester. Victor was no doubt a hard worker all his life. He is survived by daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Mihaljevic­h, Shelley (Derrick Ryerson) d’entremont, Alice (Shane) Deveau and several stepchildr­en with special mention of Shawn (Tina) Romaine who Vic called “Son”; brothers, Ken (Joan) Bain, and Kevin (Rose) Bain; many grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren, and many extended family. Aside from his parents he was predecease­d by his partner, Alice Romaine; brothers, Harold “Bub” and Spencer. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his cat “Mickey”. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematoriu­m, Yarmouth. As per Victor’s request there will be no funeral service at this time. Donations in memory may be made to J&M for Cats, Nova Scotia.
