It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Shirley Matheson, (Blakley) on Monday March 4, 2024, after a brief stay in Palliative Care. Born April 6, 1926, she was the only daughter of the late Phoebe and Lawrence Blakley. She was predecease­d by her beloved husband, Melvin; and dear son, David; brothers, Robert, Stanley and George. Shirley was active in her church, a Sunday School teacher for many years at St. James Armdale, a member and former president of the St. Augustines Ladies Guild, member of the Altar Guild and a Past Warden and member of Church Council. She enjoyed bridge, bowling, golf and swimming. One of her greatest joys was volunteeri­ng in the Play Therapy Room of the former Children’s hospital and selling toys at the Kermesse Annual Fair. Mom Loved to travel, especially to Bermuda and Florida with her whole family in tow. She cherished time spent with her grandchild­ren, and their dogs. She was a former member of Ashburn Golf Club and the Saraguay Club. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Ellen-marie and Lisa; daughter-in-law, Madeleine; grandsons, Matthew (Stephen Tait) Calgary, Andrew; and granddaugh­ter, Lauren (Lukas Stover), Halifax; her brother, Donald (Joan) Ottawa; nieces and nephews. Special to her were her nephew, Richard Blakley (Heather) and his sister, Shirley, and nephew, John Wilker Blakley (Wendy) and his sister, Cathy Blakley Harris (Rob). Cremation has taken place, and a family service will be held. Many Thanks to all of the staff on 7A Palliative Care and to Liz Hicks for their compassion­ate assistance with the care of our mother.
