It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric on Saturday, February 24, 2024, just a few days short of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Halifax, the son of John and Laura (Smith) Edwards of Eastern Passage, N.S. Eric is survived by his three children, Joan Burke (Lester), William (Jill) and Andrew (Stephanie); nine grandchildren, Erin, Benjamin, Mitchell, Luke, Julie, John, Thomas, Elizabeth and Jennifer; and fourteen greatgrandchildren, Patrick, Eli, Eva, Ezra, Susannah, Leo, Kaleb, Valentino, Angelina, Logan, Brielle, Lachlan, Charles, and Caleb. Eric was predeceased by Margie, his wife of 67 years, in 2022 and his sister, Marian (Francis Hourihan) in 2014, and siblings Reginald, Lawrence, and Margaret, all of whom died in infancy. Prior to retirement, Eric and his family spent 30 years in Saint John, N.B. where he was the manager of K-mart. After retirement, Eric and Margie spent many happy winters in the warm Florida sunshine and summers in their Shediac home. Eric enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, lawn bowling and cards. The last number of years, Eric continued to spend his summers in Shediac (where his great-grandchildren loved to drop in after a swim for a refreshing popsicle and to hear his latest jokes) and his winters in Shannex in Quispamsis where he was an avid card player, excelling at 45’s, bridge and crib. Always the perfect gentleman, his outgoing and cheerful personality made him a friend to all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. At Eric’s request, there will be no visitations, but funeral and burial services will be held in Saint John, N.B., at a later date. Arrangements will be made through Frenette Funeral Centre, Shediac.
