It is with great sadness that the family of Catherine Rose Gray, 76 of Port Hawkesbury announce her sudden passing on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s, NS. Born in West Bay Road, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Florence (Macquarrie) Macaskill. Catherine was raised in West Bay Road along with her 11 siblings. After 35 years, she retired from the Strait Regional School Board. Catherine loved children and also provided childcare to many families in the community. She enjoyed music, dancing, bingo and spending time with her loved ones. Catherine is survived by her four children, Wes Gray (Pam), Lawrenceto­wn, NS, Blair Gray (Karen), Eastern Passage, NS, Amanda Gray, Port Hawkesbury, NS, Gregory Gray, Kitamac, BC; grandchild­ren, Gracie, Madison, Brooklyn and Jordan. Brothers, Murdock (Elizabeth) Macaskill, Uxbridge, ON, Angus (Pauline) Macaskill, Heatherton, NS; and sisters, Julia Macquarrie and Annie Macinnis, Port Hawkesbury, NS. Catherine was predecease­d by her brothers, Hughie, Duncan John (Dorothy), Dan (Anne); sisters, Jane (James) Rogers, Florence (Alex) Hatcher; and brothers-in-law, Eddie Macinnis and Donald Macquarrie. Catherine’s family would like to thank the staff of the Richmond Villa, the homecare workers, nurses, and Dr. Collins that all helped with her care over the last few years. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2-6 p.m. at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13 at St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury. Burial to be held at a later date.
