Age 89, of Shag Harbour. The family is saddened to announce the passing of Joyce Jeanette Sears on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully. Joyce was the daughter of the late Lester (Johnny) and Isaline Ross, born on June 3, 1934, at Newellton, Cape Sable Island. In 1954, she married Wilbert (Bibbie) Sears, and they made their home in Shag Harbour where they raised a son, Gregory, and two daughters, Charlene and Cheryl Ann. Joyce was a genuine and compassion­ate person who valued her relationsh­ips with family and friends. She was a safe haven and a loving mentor for her family members, including her grandchild­ren. Joyce leaves behind a legacy of servitude and a love for the simple pleasures of life, such as cooking and baking for family gatherings. Besides her parents, Joyce was predecease­d by her husband, Bibbie; daughter, Charlene; daughter-in-law, Marianne; and siblings, Avis, Gert, Allan, and Stanley. She is survived by her son, Gregory; daughter, Cheryl Ann (Stanley); son-in-law, George (Karla); grandchild­ren, Patrick (Simona), Shawn (Melissa), Jessica (Travis), Jacob (Beth), Joshua (Rebekah), Stephanie (Tom), Haleigh, and Caleb; great-grandchild­ren, Logan (Abby), Connor, Amalie, Charlene, Liam, Josie, Evan, Kyndal, Quinn, Jonathon, Bastien, Gideon, Marshall, Odin, Naomi, and Emma; great-great-granddaugh­ter, Skye; sisters, Marie and Juanita; sister-in-law, Juanita; and many more extended family and friends. There was a visitation held, Sunday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, where the service followed on Monday, March 11, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Andrew Violette officiatin­g. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shag Harbour. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oceanview Christian Academy or the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Foundation. The family would like to take this time to thank the staff and residents of Yarmouth Heights for the care and friendship they provided Joyce in recent years.
