KENT, Theodore Alvah

-

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Theodore Alvah Kent at Northwood Centre in the early morning of March 8, 2024. Teddy, as he was affectionately known, was born and raised in Ostrea Lake, by fisherman, the late Norman Ernest and schoolteacher Lulu Bell (Mackinnon). Dad will be profoundly missed by his wife, Beverly Rita (Mason); son, Darrell (Anita); daughter, Darlene (Steven Rodgers); son, Derrick; grandchildren, Brandon (Tara) and Dylan Rodgers. Teddy was expecting his first great-granddaughter in May. He is also survived by his brother, Carl (Vivian) and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He is predeceased by siblings, Lloyd Kent and Evelyn Morash. Teddy was born with the love of the sea and made a living for his family from his passion. He sailed on many vessels during his lifetime, most notably, C.H.S. Baffin and Sigma T. Teddy visited many countries and oceans from the Caribbean Islands, to Greenland, the North Pole and along the Pacific Ocean. His rich experiences and education earned him the rank of Captain. Teddy captained the Bedford Institute of Oceanography research vessel, Sigma T. He was proud to sail this ship around the beautiful inlets of Nova Scotia. In the true sense of the word, Teddy was a “tinkerer.” He was a man who could fix, recycle or build anything he set his mind to. From constructing his 24’ fishing schooner, “Snoopy” to several homes and a log cabin, he thrived on keeping himself busy with projects. Teddy will also be remembered as a gentle and kind soul who adored his family and was a long-respected member of his community. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 12 o’clock at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. Reverend James Haughan officiating with reception to follow. Burial will take place at Pleasant Point Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of 8C Northwood Center. A special thanks to Shanna, Catherine and Brad for their compassion and kindness. We also are deeply grateful to all the staff at the Dialysis Unit at the VG Dickson Building, who for many years, took exemplary care of our dad. Online condolences by visiting:
