RCMP took a man into custody at a home in Lake Loon, Halifax County, Friday afternoon, about three hours after they descended on the home.

Officers, some with their service weapons drawn and others with carbines, arrived in the 100 block of Montague Road over the noon hour. An officer used a loudspeaker to try to convince someone to come outside with their arms up.

RCMP spokesman Const. Dominic Laflamme said police were there as part an “ongoing investigation,” but that the police presence wasn’t connected to a shooting on Downey Road in North Preston Thursday.

“It’s a totally different call,” he said.

Police were asking people to stay away from the area, but Laflamme said he didn’t know if any neighbours had been evacuated or give any specific safety instructions.

He said the situation was contained within the home, and the person taken into custody was alone inside.

There were no injuries during the incident.

Members of the RCMP and Halifa Regional Police emergency response teams, along with an armoured vehicle, arrived on the scene mid afternoon as the incident moved into its third hour.

Laflamme said the investigation is continuing, but didn't say what led to police arriving at the home,

NORTH PRESTON

Meanwhile, in the North Preston incident, an 18-yearold man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting on Thursday.

RCMP in Halifax County responded to a calls about shots fired over the supper hour Thursday.

Police said the incident happened outside on Downey Road, and the road was closed for a time while police investigated.

Police said they believed the shooting was an random act. They recovered "numerous" shell casings at the scene and damage to nearby buildings and vehicles, Laflamme said.

He said he couldn't say how many casings were found, or whether they indicated more than one tyoe of weapon was involved or the type used.

No other injuries have been reported.

Laflamme said police don't have a suspect description and don't know if the shooter or shooters fled on foot or in a vehicle.

Police were still on the scene Friday morning.
