A devoted family man, he cared for Mom at home during her long illness with Alzheimers. Young at heart, he enjoyed participating in our lives, especially with our athletic endeavours. As a Gramps, he was our super-fan and videographer. He was a fun grandfather with a big smile who shared his love of gardening with us. After graduating from Dalhousie Medical School, Dad practiced rural family medicine. He was known for making house calls with his little black bag, caring for the people in his community along the Eastern Shore for over 40 years. He was a supporter of the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital and the Birches, and was an active member of the Provincial Medical Board. Dad was an avid sports enthusiast. He was involved in hockey both as a player and coach, instilling a love for the game in generations of young athletes. He played tennis, sailed, and golfed, and in retirement he enjoyed spending his mornings on the golf course where he enjoyed the companionship of friends. He was a founding member of Petpeswick Yacht Club, and was instrumental in the establishment of the local Community Recreation Association. The family wish to acknowledge the love and support that Dad had received from Susan Myers over many, many years which enabled him to remain in his home and enjoy the fresh vegetables from their garden. A Celebration of his Life will be held in Petpeswick Yacht Club on Saturday, May 4, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
