It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear father Sterling Bacon Bird, age 90, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, NS. He was a son of the late Creighton and Reta (Bacon) Bird. Born in Nappan, NS, and remained there until he moved to Amherst on Derby Street in 2017. He worked with his dad on their farm as a young boy and also with Almer and Neil Ripley at Ripley’s Maple Farm until age

70. He was employed with the Nappan Experiment­al Farm until he retired at age

55. A very dear man who dedicated his life to his family and loved ones. Sterling loved the woods and enjoyed hunting with his son Jim each year. He couldn’t wait to oil the guns and prepare for his next deer. Sterling also loved cutting his own wood and continued well over age 80. Each summer was spent in their cottage at the beach, entertaini­ng family and friends. Sterling and his wife couldn’t wait to hit the shores to relax and enjoy the ocean waves. He enjoyed taking trips around the Atlantic Provinces with his wife and son, Terry to see the sites. Sterling is survived by his two sons, James (Dena) of Fenwick and Terry of Amherst, NB; one sister, Gwen Barrie of Prince Edward Island; six grandchild­ren, Adam (Amy), Michael (Melanie), Jason (Amy), Matthew (Sylvie), Aimee (Jason) and Katrina (Rod), great grandchild­ren, Ashley, Erin, Kayley, Mia, Anika, Rena, Samantha, Emily, Mason, Jacob, Colton and Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife, Joan Bailey; brothers, Garnet, Leland, Bob, Murray and Leon; sister in infancy and daughter in law, Kim. Following Sterling’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst, NS. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Wildlife Federation or the charity of your choice.
