The family of Robert Fraser, 96, of Halifax, formerly of Yarmouth, sadly announces his passing on Monday April 1, 2024, at Northwood Manor Halifax. Born in Bridgewate­r, he was the son of the late Earle and Mildred (Hubley) Fraser. Robert began working for Canadian National Railway in the freight department on November 11, 1946, and worked in various locations in N.S. before settling in Yarmouth in 1958. After the railway was discontinu­ed, Robert transferre­d to CN Marine (later Marine Atlantic) as Assistant Terminal Manager. He retired on December 31, 1987. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing and building/repairing things. He would often tell Mom he was going “Up Country” where he enjoyed just walking in the woods. He was a member of Wesley United and later Beacon United, serving on the Building Committee, Sunday School and Session. Robert is survived by his daughter, Janice, Halifax; son, Brian (Shirley) Hamilton, ON. Grandchild­ren, Andrew (Lindsay Visser) Durkee, Halifax; Kathryn (Stewart) Rand, Halifax; Matthew (Samantha) Fraser Hamilton, On; Brendan Fraser, Hamilton, ON; and his greatgrand­daughters, Ivy and Charlotte. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his loving wife, Virginia; and brother, Douglas (Judy). The family wishes to thank all the caregivers, nurses and doctor at the 3rd floor of Northwood Manor for their excellent care of Robert. Funeral arrangemen­t entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre, Lunenburg County. Rev. Rick Pryce officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke would be appreciate­d by the family.
