LAWLEY, Ross Gordon

-

March 24, 1961 - March 31, 2024. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ross Gordon Lawley after a short, but brave battle with cancer on March 31, 2024. Born in Halifax, NS on March 24,1961, he was the son of Gordon and the late Mary (Maclennan) Lawley. Ross grew up in Fairview and spent his summers in Stanhope, PEI. He was a graduate of Dalhousie University receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree and served as Consul (President) of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a businessman from a young age delivering papers, selling apples and selling shoes before joining the family business until retirement in 2019. Ross met his devoted wife Darlene in 2004 and married in 2010. As a result of this union, Ross was fortunate to become Papa to Hanna, who he loved dearly. Ross had a passion for the game of golf and an appreciation for all the great friendships he made with fellow golfers at Ashburn and Stanhope. When golf season was approaching, he always enjoyed predicting the course’s opening day and then the countdown would begin. He loved summertime life in Stanhope and winters in Halifax cheering on the Mooseheads. Ross had an incredible circle of friends from an early age on Melrose Ave. The boys have gathered annually since 1993 playing for that highly sought after Blue Jacket at their beloved and popular Tightlines golf tournament in Cape Breton. As well, Ross always shone brightly at the annual Stanhope Golf Plaid tournament with “Dawife”. The couple also cherished their adventures traveling around the world. Ross had a quiet personality and brought so much joy to anyone who had the pleasure to know him. He is most remembered for his witty jokes and sarcasm; unless he was getting ready for his 7a.m. tee time, then he was all business. Ross was predeceased by his mother, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Shortell-lawley along with her daughter, Hanna Nathanson; his father, J. Gordon Lawley; brothers, Jim (Andrea Brinton) and Jeff (Shelley); nephew, James; as well as many Maclennan, Macleod and Love cousins. The family extends their sincere gratitude to all the doctors and nurses who supported his vigorous cancer treatments over the past three months. A funeral service will be held at Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Avenue, Halifax, NS on Sunday, April 28th at 2p.m. and live streamed at: https://youtube.com/live/ U8HTKIRAOOI Visitation with Darlene will be held at 5121 Bishop Street, Halifax on April 25th and 26th.
