Steele earns second win
Northern Selects fall in overtime
Brady Burke collected three assists as host Steele Subaru downed the Pinnacle Growlers 4-2 at the Atlantic Under-18 AAA Hockey Championship on Friday afternoon at the East Hants Sportsplex.
Brennan O'donnell, Aiden O'donnell, Nolan Stevens and Jace Evans scored for Steele, which improved to (1-1-0 for five points) in the roundrobin tournament.
Noah Boland had both goals for the Growlers (0-2).
Earlier on Friday, the Halifax Mcdonalds evened their record at 1-1 with a 4-0 victory over the Moncton Flyers (1-1).
Sam Madgett stopped 30 shots for the shutout, while Luc Legere, Easton Schneider, Ben Lindsay and Daniel Walters scored for Halifax.
Halifax and Steele played in a key matchup on Friday night.
On Thursday night, Steele, the tournament host, edged the Kensington Wild 2-1 in overtime. Tristan Leblanc, with the OT winner, and Jake Prince scored for Steele.
In other Thursday games, Kensington edged Halifax 3-2 and Moncton topped the Pinnacle Growlers 5-3.
ATLANTIC UNDER-18 FEMALE AAA
The Eastern Storm of P.E.I. edged the Northern Subway Selects 1-0 on Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Under18 Female AAA Hockey Championship in Corner Brook, N.L.
Cassandra Gordon scored in the first period for the Storm and goalie Olivia Lowe stopped 13 shots for the shutout.
Selects goalie Jorga Burrows made 35 saves in the loss.
The win gave the Storm a 3-0 record, while the Selects fell to 2-1.
On Thursday, the Selects stormed to a pair of wins over Newfoundland and Labrador opponents.
Jorja Burrows made 14 saves and Kendall Doiron scored twice as the Selects blanked the Tripen Ice 6-0. Hali-rose, Emerson Macdonald, Mya Macdonald and Laci Boyd added singles in the win.
Brooke Williams scored four times as the Selects defeated host Western Warriors 10-2 in the evening game. Laci Boyd and Aylee Glenn each added a pair, while singles went to Maclean and Emerson Macdonald.
On Saturday, the Selects play the Western Flames at 9 a.m.
The gold medal is Sunday at noon.
