-

Professor Barend Ubbo Felderhof (PH.D), born on January 13, 1936, passed away at his home in Aachen, Germany on March 17, 2024 at the age of 88. Ubbo was the son of Dr. Herman H. Felderhof and Hermine E. Felderhof, (Ubbink), of the Netherlands and New Glasgow, NS. When his parents moved to Canada in 1954, Ubbo remained in The Netherlands to continue his studies in physics at the University of Leiden. He was still doing active research and had papers published in international academic journals until the time of his passing. He worked and taught in The Netherlands, United States, England and in Germany at RWTH University of Aachen, where he served as professor and professor emeritus in physics from 1975 until the current year. He is survived by his partner, Maria Adams; daughter, Linda Klee-lumeij (Marck); and grandsons, Hugo, Paul and Theo; and his siblings, Ineke Graham (George Brandys), Els Cockburn (David), Clarence (Hazel), Gerard (Kathryn), Marius, Dick (Linda), Cathy, Herman, Will (Marni); and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brothers, Henk (Marilyn) and John; and sister-in-law, Jennifer (Marius). Ubbo had a broad range of interests. He was an avid reader. He loved music, attending symphonies and operas and loved playing his grand piano. Biking, hiking and swimming were his other favourite pastimes. Despite oceans separating him from his immediate and extended families he kept in regular contact with them. He lived his life to the fullest and left us with wonderful memories. Celebration of Life will take place Friday, April 19, in Aachen Germany.
