MELLANBY, Susan

-

June 28, 1944 to April 4, 2024. With the most heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Susan Mellanby. Susan passed peacefully, at the age of 79, on April 4th, holding hands with her daughter and granddaughter, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Colchester, Essex in the United Kingdom to the late Roddy and Edith Taylor, Susan married her late husband John in 1965 at 21 years of age. In 1971, with two children in tow, they immigrated to Canada, planting their roots in Nova Scotia. Susan was successful in all her business endeavours and retired at the age of 74. She was the life of every party, the pulse of every workplace and the absolute heart and soul of her family. Her sense of humour and quick wit were definitely among her most memorable traits. Anyone who knew her would have a memorable, hilarious story to share. By far, her proudest achievements were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a selfless, wonderful mother, whose loss will be forever felt. Susan is survived by her son, Jon Mellanby (Paula); daughter, Jess Mellanby (Curtis); granddaughters, Ryley Strangward (Reilly) and Brooke Mellanby (Jacob); great-grandchildren, Leta and Myles; sisters, Meg Gill and Judith Joslin. Susan was pre-deceased by her husband, John M. Mellanby; brother, Keith Taylor; and parents Roddy and Edith Taylor. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, April 19th at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive at 2 p.m. In honour of Susan, please wear bright colours. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Susan’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
