SCHWARTZ (Gillette), Marilyn Elizabeth

A beacon of kindness and support, passed away peacefully March 30, 2024, in Musquodobo­it Harbour, NS, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 24, 1941, in Halifax, NS, Marilyn lived a life dedicated to uplifting others and cherishing the beauty of her maritime surroundin­gs. Growing up along the shores of Bedford Basin, Marilyn's love for the sea was ingrained from an early age. She was a skilled sailor and found solace and joy being on the water. Marilyn's educationa­l journey led her to attain certificat­ion as a Book Keeper from Halifax County Vocational High School in 1959, marking the beginning of her illustriou­s career. In her profession­al life, Marilyn's expertise extended across various fields, from her tenure in large banks to her pivotal role as Office Manager at Tidewater Constructi­on. Her remarkable ability to connect with people, coupled with her passion for genealogy, made her a beloved figure at the Adult Clinic in Sheet Harbour, where she dedicated her time to helping individual­s trace their roots and reunite with lost family members. Marilyn's generosity knew no bounds. She was renowned for extending a hand-up to those in need, embodying the essence of compassion and empathy. Her impact extended beyond her profession­al endeavors, as she touched countless lives with her unwavering support and “tough love” approach to overcoming challenges. Family was paramount to Marilyn. She leaves behind her devoted son, Erich Vaughn Schwartz; cherished granddaugh­ters, Sonia Bernard and Leah Schwartz; and great-grandson, Kristopher Comeau. Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald James Schwartz; her parents, Monson Gillette and Hilda Woodworth; and her brother, John Gillette. A modest committal will be conducted on Thursday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in Brookside Bedford Community Cemetery Rev. Debra Burleson officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers or donations, it is requested that individual­s honor Marilyn's legacy by performing acts of kindness within their communitie­s, echoing her spirit of generosity and goodwill. Marilyn's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the enduring power of love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
