Tigers tab Murray as new head coach

The Dalhousie Tigers named Patrick Murray as the new head coach of the women’s volleyball team on Wednesday.

Murray, a Dalhousie alum, returned to the Tigers as an assistant coach for the 202324 season to support interim head coach Michelle Aucoin. He was an assistant coach with the Tigers from 20102019.

“We are excited to have Patrick take the lead on our women’s volleyball program and add another quality person to our team in Athletics & Recreation,” said Executive Director Tim Maloney. “We are confident that Patrick will help guide our women’s volleyball program into its next successful chapter.”

Murray graduated in 2010 with a science degree and more recently completed his pharmacy degree in 2016.

“It is a tremendous honour to be named the head coach of a program that means so much to me,” says Murray. “Through my time with the women’s volleyball team, I have been very fortunate to have been surrounded by amazing student-athletes and coaches. I look forward to building on the culture of excellence that we have establishe­d.”

Murray had previously coached with the Tigers Volleyball Club and was a head coach for age group teams with Volleyball Nova Scotia from 2010 to 2012. He was also an assistant coach for Nova Scotia at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Murray will start his tenure as head coach on May 13. Longtime assistant coach Tessa Bulmer will be returning for the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach on Murray’s staff.

The Tigers' AUS championsh­ip streak of 10 years ended in the semifinals this season. Overall, the Tigers have won 27 AUS conference titles and three national medals, including a CIAU gold medal in 1981-82.
